JEFFREY TAYLOR

Artist's Statement

My pottery has developed through a pursuit of the expression of form and surface with function. I use a variety of slip clay combinations to enrich the surface of the functional forms. The slip covered surface is altered using brushes, combs, flexible ribs, veterinary syringes, handmade wooden tools, stamps, and found objects. I generally work in series while making the forms and do not strive to duplicate exact surface decoration. Each piece is unique yet grouped easily into sets if desired. In all the variety of forms I insist on a well functioning end product. This is especially true of my teapots which minimize dripping and have lids that do not fall out when pouring with one hand. I am joined by my wife Nadia in many aspects of production and sales.
